Careers & Pathways
The careers services supports career development learning, including careers counselling for all students of the school. Our aim is to prepare our students for the move to university, TAFE or employment and provide them with lifelong skills to help manage future career transitions.
Careers in the Curriculum
At all year levels career development learning is taught within the Tutorial Program. Students are encouraged to reflect on their interests, skills and abilities and how these relate to careers. At Year 10 level students use the online career matching tool Career Voyage as the basis for further investigation of careers and course pathways. In later years the focus is on course research and evaluation in preparation for the tertiary application process.
The careers service is staffed by a qualified careers counsellor. Students are able to book appointments with the careers counsellor to discuss their individual pathways planning and other course and career related issues. Students receive targeted support in relation to VCE subject selection and tertiary applications (Victoria, interstate and international).
Parents are also welcome to make an appointment to speak to the careers counsellor about issues relating to students.
Students have the option of undertaking the Morrisby Report program. This program combines comprehensive aptitude, personality and interest testing and one on one careers counselling to assist students in investigating possible future career direction.
Students in Years 10-12 have the option of undertaking five days of work experience. The program is run during the Term 2/3 break and provides the opportunity for students to experience the world of work, understand employer expectations and build their employability skills. The program is co-ordinated by the Careers, Pathways and Awards Officer.
Guest Speaker Series
Throughout the year all students have the opportunity to hear from people from a wide range of courses and careers.
The Careers Newsletter is distributed at the same time as the school newsletter. This is a way for families to stay informed about internal and external careers events, course and careers information. You can view the newsletter here.
Students and families have access to up to date careers information and resources through the Suzanne Cory Careers website. The Careers site provides links to course and careers information and resources, events and work experience information.
Careers Resources in the iCentre
Victorian and interstate university and TAFE course guides and other printed materials are located in the iCentre. These materials are freely available to students.
